๐ History of Sudoku
Sudoku is a puzzle game created in 1979 by American mathematician Howard Garns. In Japan, it's called 'Sudoku' (meaning 'numbers are limited to singles') and is beloved worldwide.
It helps develop logical thinking and concentration skills, making it an enjoyable puzzle for all ages.
๐ฏ Detailed Basic Rules
There are 81 squares in total, divided into nine 3ร3 blocks. Some numbers are given as hints from the start.
- Each row contains numbers 1-9, one each
- Each column contains numbers 1-9, one each
- Each 3ร3 block contains numbers 1-9, one each
Clear when all squares are correctly filled. Invalid placements are highlighted in red for reference.
๐ง Solution Techniques
Consider possible numbers for each square and record them using the memo function. Eliminate existing numbers in rows, columns, and blocks to narrow candidates.
When only one square in a row, column, or block can contain a certain number, it's confirmed. Look for patterns where a number can only go in one place, even if multiple candidates exist.
Even when you can't directly find the answer, by accumulating 'this number can't go here' eliminations, you can gradually narrow down candidates.
- Start with rows, columns, or blocks that have fewer numbers
- Use memo function actively to organize candidates
- Fill in squares you're certain about first
- Use the hint function when stuck
