๐ History of Chess
Chess is one of the world's oldest board games with over 1500 years of history. Originating from the Indian game 'Chaturanga', it is now a beloved intellectual game worldwide.
Known as the 'Game of Kings' under FIDE official rules, it possesses infinite strategic possibilities.
Detailed Rules
There are 6 types: King, Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight, and Pawn, each with different movement rules.
Moves one square in any direction. The key piece that must be protected.
The most powerful piece. Can move any number of squares horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Moves any number of squares horizontally or vertically. Can also perform castling.
Moves any number of squares diagonally. Can only move on squares of the same color.
Moves in an L-shape (2+1 squares). The only piece that can jump over others.
Usually moves one square forward. Can move two squares on first move. Captures diagonally forward.
When the king and rook have never moved, both can move simultaneously to secure the king's safety. The king moves 2 squares horizontally, and the rook jumps over to the opposite side.
Conditions: King and rook unmoved, no pieces between them, king not in check, king's path not under attack
When an opponent's pawn moves 2 squares from its starting position and lands beside your pawn, you can capture it diagonally as if it moved only 1 square. The captured pawn is removed from the board.
Conditions: Must be done immediately after opponent's 2-square pawn move, your pawn on 5th rank (White) or 4th rank (Black)
When a pawn reaches the opposite end of the board, it can be promoted to a Queen, Rook, Bishop, or Knight. Usually, Queen is chosen for its power.
Conditions: Pawn reaches 8th rank (White) or 1st rank (Black)
- Checkmate: King cannot escape and the game is decided
- Resignation: Player gives up in a disadvantageous situation
- Stalemate: King is safe but no legal moves available (Draw)
- Threefold Repetition: Same position occurs 3 times (Draw)
- 50-Move Rule: 50 moves without capturing or pawn move (Draw)
- Insufficient Material: Not enough pieces to checkmate (Draw)
- Control the center
- Develop pieces actively in opening
- King safety is top priority
- Be careful not to lose pieces
- Use King actively in endgame
